Update
Your Lib Dem Councillors have opposed the
introduction of this charge and asked the Council to reconsider - but they
are not listening. The Labour-run Group even prevented this decision
from being scrutinized by other councillors. "Many residents are angry
at having to pay twice for this service, through their council tax and
the surcharge, which they rightly expect should be funded from council
taxes" according to Councillor Craig France, Leader of the Lib Dems on
Erewash Borough Council.
This decision will damage the local environment, will encourage
fly-tipping, and boomerang on council taxpayers as the Council will have
to clear it up.
The new charge introduced from 8th April will cost households
£10 for the Borough Council to collect up to six items such as furniture,
carpets, fridges, washing machines, bags of general waste and unscheduled
emptying of wheeled bins.

The ruling-group made the decision without reference to
other councillors. “They rushed it through without consultation or scrutiny.
It is hoped that residents will not be deterred from paying
the £10 charge or that they will take their rubbish, if they can,
to the nearest civic amenity where it will be accepted free of charge.”
